Dear Reference Book User:

The Personal Insurance Federation (PIFC) is an organization representing insurance companies that write personal lines of insurance such as private passenger automobile, homeowners, personal liability and earthquake insurance for millions of citizens throughout California.

It is the intent of PIFC to actively encourage open discussion of personal lines insurance issues. To that end, we have published the PIFC Insurance Reference Book . This reference book is a primer for those who need to inform themselves quickly about personal lines insurance topics and a general understanding of how the insurance industry works in California.

The PIFC Insurance Reference Book includes sections on ratemaking, explanations of the various types of insurance, information about the California Department of Insurance, and an extensive glossary of insurance terms. The resources section provides names, telephone numbers, and when available, e-mail addresses of organizations which can provide answers to your insurance questions. Additionally, there is a section which contains legislative and regulatory information about specific California personal lines insurance industry issues from the perspective of PIFC. The PIFC Insurance Reference Book is also available on PIFC's website: www.pifc.org.

We hope you will use the reference book and visit PIFC's web site for legislative and regulatory issue updates, press releases and issue position papers. Yearly updates will be sent to you to keep the book as current as possible.
